Wheat Belt's service territory covers approximately 2,500 square miles of the southern portion of the Nebraska panhandle. Parts of seven counties are served - Banner, Morrill, Cheyenne, Deuel, Garden, Keith and Arthur. The communities of Sunol, Gurley, Dalton, Lorenzo and Reddington are supplied by Wheat Belt PPD. Within the service area the towns of Broadwater, Lisco, Oshkosh, Lodgepole, Lewellen and Big Springs, are supplied energy by NPPD (Nebraska Public Power District), Sidney and Chappell are members of the MEAN (Municipal Energy Association of Nebraska). The Wheat Belt PPD main office is located in Sidney, Nebraska: two outposts are located in the towns of Dalton and Oshkosh.
As of January 2008, Wheat Belt has $42,177,747 of plant in service and another $355,927 worth of construction work in progress to service 4952 accounts. Plant includes 150 miles of 34.5KV transmission line, 2,209 miles of overhead distribution and another 150 miles of underground distribution. The load is divided to 1,977 residential rural services, 1,475 seasonal residential, 959 irrigation accounts, 360 small commercial (1MVA) and 3 industrial accounts over 1MVA.
Average annual sales average 160,000 MWH with an average winter time load of approximately 18 MW and a summer time peak due to irrigation of 55MW. Irrigation horsepower is over 65,000 horsepower. Wheat Belt PPD is a member of Tri-State Generation and Transmission Association based in Denver Colorado
