Youth Info

Wheat Belt Public Power District, Basin Electric, Tri-State G&T, and Arbor Wealth team up each year to offer several scholarships to students looking to advance their education.

Applicants applying for the Basin, Tri-State or Arbor Wealth Scholarships must be a dependent of a Wheat Belt customer and enrolled or planning to enroll in a full-time undergraduate course of study at a 2-Yr. community or junior college, 4-Yr. college or university, vocational/technical school or lineman school.

Applicants applying for the Wheat Belt scholarships must be enrolled or planning to enroll in a full-time technical field course of study at a vocational/technical school or lineman school.

The scholarships offered are:

  • One - $2,000 Wheat Belt Lineman Scholarship ($1,000 minimum) or Two - $500 Wheat Belt Vocational/Technical Scholarships
  • One - $1,000 Basin Electric Scholarship
  • Two - $500 Tri-State G&T Scholarships
  • One - $100 Arbor Wealth Scholarship

Below is the application to be used for all scholarships.  The applications must be in Wheat Belt's office by 4:00 p.m. on February 12, 2021.

Story Behind the Switch

Grades K – 6

  • 45 to 60-minute traveling interactive presentation
  • Teaches how electricity is made and about electrical safety
  • What is diverse energy mix

Power Line Safety

  • Grades K – 3 Live, indoor low-voltage exercise to demonstrate the danger of energized power lines
  • Grades 4 – 12 live, outdoor high-voltage exercise to demonstrate the danger of energized power lines
  • Learn the hazards of downed lines and learn what dangers occur when various, everyday objects touch a power line

Safety Fair – May 7, 2022 tentative

  • Held every three years
  • For Fourth and Fifth grade students in our service territory
  • Coordinated effort from organizations throughout the area providing 20-minute safety awareness and injury prevention related sessions

Touchstone Award

Grades 9 – 12

  • Recognition of outstanding Scholastic and Athletic performance
  • Two students selected from each school in our service territory
  • Schools receive $400 ($200 per division) to be used at their discretion
  • Recipients receive a certificate and gift cards; an engraved nameplate is added to the plaque displayed at their school
